Cyprus is a superb place to
play golf. The island's good weather means that
you can play almost all year round. There are three
18-hole championship golf courses in Cyprus, all in
the Paphos area.
The
Tsada Golf Club (par 72/6060m) was the first
grass course to be built in Cyprus, and was completed
in 1994. Located about 20 mins from Paphos on the Polis
Road near Tsada Village, it is about 550 metres from
sea level ensuring cool breezes during the summer months.
Historically it has been part of the monastery of "Stravros
tis Minthis" which gives an air of timelessness
and romance, from the 7th tee often a monk may be seen
in the garden of the monastery.
Donald Steel designed the 18-hole course at Tsada in
two loops of nine. The clubhouse facilities included
a restaurant, bar, changing rooms with showers, a swimming
pool, tennis, a driving range and a putting green to
relax after the game or for the spouse who stay behind
at the clubhouse. The pro-shop offers an array of golfing
accessories, a boutique, electronically powered golf
carts and a PGA professional offers tuition and guidance.
Prices start from CY£23 for 18 holes.
The Secret Valley Golf Club
(par 72/6120m) is located on the old Paphos to Limassol
Road just before Aphrodite's Rock (Petrou tou Romiou)
and about a ten-minute drive from Pissouri Village.
Its 18 holes are set in a spectacular setting in a scenic
valley with grand trees adding maturity to a fairly
new course. The strikingly colourful natural rock formations
offer panoramic views to the golfers.
Secret
Valley promises players both: the beauty of nature and
the pleasure of golf. The front nine offer four nice
holes for warming up, two birdie opportunities and an
easy dogleg! The back nine plays longer than the first
nine and the challenge starts immediately - no warm-up
holes on this side. Practice facilities include putting
greens, chipping areas, fairway bunkers and a large
driving range.
The club house has been designed as a rural Cypriot
building and comes with locker rooms, a pro-shop, a
restaurant, bar and golf academy, with driving range
and video coaching. Prices start from CY£2l for
18 holes.
Aphrodite Hills Golf Club
(par 71/6665m) is only 2 mins from the main Limassol
- Paphos highway and is easily assessable from both
towns. Aphrodite Hills is located close to the legendary
birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love.
On the south west coast of the island in a beauty spot
that is steeped in ancient history, culture and mythology.
Aphrodite Hills occupies two elevated plateaux on either
side of the Randidi Gorge, a natural ravine and public
nature reserve. The resort is also surrounded by the
Randi forest, which is protected by the Cyprus Government's
Department of Forestry.
Well-known
American Cabell B Robinson designed the course. 20km
from Paphos this 18-hole championship standard golf
course is situated on two plateaus, 300 metres high
overlooking the Mediterranean. With good practice facilities
including double ended 350 metre practice range, 4 target
greens with bunkers, short game practice facilities,
3 academy holes (1 x par 3, 2 x par 4), 2 resident professional
golf instructors. A large inviting clubhouse with bar,
restaurant facilities. Terraces overlooking 18th green.
Pro shop offering the latest fashion in golf apparel.
Golf equipment from the leading manufacturers.
Aphrodite Hills will feature a new 5 star deluxe Intercontinental
hotel. World-class tennis courts and tennis academy;
health spa providing an array of services including
specialised treatments, massage, gym and a pool. The
heart of the resort development is near completion with
the new village centre of bars, restaurants and shops
scheduled to open early 2004. The village centre will
